Fred died as the result of a bobsled accident when he went on the sled to get some fodder. Fred was the son of J.M. and Christine Nelson, and came to the United States when he was six months old. Most of his life was spent in Wapello county, the last 33 years on the same farm. He was a member of the First Lutheran church. Surviving were his wife, Selma; three children, Marvin, Marie, and Lawrence, all at home; and sisters, Mrs. Joseph Larson and Mrs. Fred Goff of Ottumwa. Short services were to be held at his home Sunday at 3 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen, pastor. The casket was to be taken to the home from the Johnson funeral chapel Saturday at 5 p.m.
