Description	:	Fred was the son of John C. Mauer & Martha Elisabeth Meister. Obit: Fred Mauer, the 21 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mauer of Clinton Twp., was injured about two o'clock last Friday morning while returning from a party at the home of John Zein. Fred was riding a pony home when he came up with a party of four ladies and five gentlemen in a lumber wagon, the team driven by Dave Scheidecker. Obit: Fred Mauer, the 21 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mauer of Clinton Twp., was injured about two o'clock last Friday morning while returning from a party at the home of John Zein. Fred was riding a pony home when he came up with a party of four ladies and five gentlemen in a lumber wagon, the team driven by Dave Scheidecker. In a good natured manner Fred started to run around the team and the team was, of course, made to quicken their speed. Fred succeeded in passing the team and while in the act of taking the road in front of the team the pony fell and the team and wagon passed over the pony and Fred, who had fallen under the pony. Fred's chest and one side was crushed and though fatally injured he lived until about eleven o'clock the same morning. He knew everything until the last and seemed to realize that he could not recover. The funeral services were conducted at the Wall Lake Presbyterian Church last Sunday, Rev. A.C. Plapper, pastor of the German Reformed Church of Clinton Township, conducting the services, and the interment took place in the Wall Lake Cemetery. Fred was the youngest of a family of seven children and the first to be called.
