Description	:	Freda J. Oetken, 94, of Akron passed away Saturday, December 25, 2004 at the Akron Care Center in Akron. Funeral services were December 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron with Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Pallbearers were Alan Oetken, Norman Zischke, Richard Oetken,Lowell Thurow, Jeff Oetken, Casey Oetken and Norman Klaus. Freda Josephine Nikoley Oetken was born September 27,1910 in Ute, IA, the daughter of Ludwig and Hulda (Kehn) Nikoley. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. She received her education in the St. Paul's Parochial Schools in Ute. Freda was united in marriage to Mervin Oetken on May 14, 1939 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. They moved to the Oetken family farm east of Akron shortly thereafter. They lived there until November of 1983 when they retired and moved to town. Mervin passed away January 26,1984 in Akron. For the past five years, Freda had been a resident of the Akron Care Center. Freda was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, E. L. C. A. in Akron, where she was a member of the A. L. C. W. and the Martha Circle. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing the bells for the Akron Bell Choir. Survivors include a daughter, Mervetta Zischke and her husband, Norman of Cedar Falls; two sons, Richard Oetken and his wife Randy of Akron and Alan Oetken and his wife, Marlys of Fort Collins, CO; eight grandchildren; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura, Anna, Elsie and Lydia; and a brother, Otto. Akron Register Tribune Thursday, December 30, 2004 Akron, Iowa
