Freda was born on December 12, 1909 near May City, Iowa, to Garritt and Anna (Eden) Luinstra, the second of nine children. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Church to which she has remained a faithful member. She was united in marriage to Walter Bahde on October 6, 1929. They were blessed with two daughters, Margret Anna born in 1935 and Carol May in 1939. They moved from Sutherland to the Marathon community in 1945. She was actively involved in church and community as she taught Sunday School for many years, served as a 4-H leader, and was a charter member of the Palette Dobbers Paint Club, Doll Club, Senior Center and a writers club. She leaves behind a legacy of precious writings and poetry. She loved sharing her story-telling and crafts with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walt, her daughter Margret, one sister and five brothers, and two sons-in-law, John Schulz and Dave Bailey. Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Carol, her sister Margaret Heilman and brother, Willy Luinstra both of May City, Iowa, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren along with her church family and many friends. She will be remembered for her sweet, cheerful manner and will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know her.
