Earlier in the week, in cranking his pick-up truck, it "kicked" back and the crank struck him in the leg. Although he felt considerable pain, no serious consideration was given to the injury until Friday morning when he was unable to walk. Blood poison set in complicated by scarlet fever, and although all possible care was given him, he passed away Sunday evening. Pallbearers were: Howard Lenz, Carsten Carstensen, Harry Streck, Otto Rehmke, Herbert Wellendorf and Walter Gosch. Freddie Henry Schroeder was born on October 30, 1914 in Goodrich township. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schroeder. He grew up in this community, went to the rural school and was confirmed in the Denison Lutheran church in 1930. On December 19, 1935 he was united in marriage to Miss Elsie Petersen. This union was blessed with two children, Elaine, who preceded her father in death on March 9, 1942, and Wayne Freddie. He farmed south of town for six years and for the past two years has been farming north of town. He was 29 years, 4 months, and 12 days old. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Elsie; his four month old son, Wayne Freddie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schroeder, and Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Petersen, and many other relatives and friends.
