Description	:	Fred had been sick with the typhoid fever for about four weeks and reports coming from the sick room have been very encouraging, until last Monday, when the doctor decided that an operation would have to be performed. A surgeon from Omaha and Drs. Crook and Britt performed the operation and from that time on, he kept failing and the end came peacefully on Thursday, June 8. Words are weak. Only those who have been down among the deep shadows with some loved one can realize it. Life will not be the same for those that are left. The threads that are broken cannot be mended. "There is no fireside however defended, but what it has one vacant chair". Mr. Thompson has lived here in Millerboro for the past 13 years, until two years ago, when he and his family moved to Winnetoon, where they lived until the time of his death. Friends he had by the score, enemies none. For who could resist his cheery words and smile. His daily life was one from whom anyone might copy. As Rev. Bowen remarked, "Another citizen has passed away and I am happy to add to it a Christian Citizen" that includes it all. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church at Winnetoon Saturday afternoon, Rev. Earl Bowen speaking the last words over our departed friend. Interment was made in the cemetery in Millerboro, where he had always attended church and been a faithful member. That they were greatly missed, when they moved away is not to be doubted. Only twice has he been able to come out here to services, the last time being Easter Sunday and little did anyone dream that it would be the last. Why! Ah, Why! We ask. Then comes the thought, "Someday we will understand, He doeth all things well". He leaves to mourn his death a beloved wife, a mother, a sister, two brothers, a son and daughter. ***** Fred Thompson was born at Ladora, Ia., Nov. 30, 1877. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1887, He was married to Carrie Byers, May 11, 1904. To this union two children were born, James C., age 6 and Marguerite, age 2. He passed away at his home in Winnetoon June 8, 1911. Mr. Thompson moved with his parents on a farm near Millerboro in 1887, where he resided until after the death of his father two years ago, when he moved to Winnetoon and entered the store of his brother, George L. Thompson, which place he filled until his recent illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the M.E. Church by Rev. Earl E. Bowen. Half the people could not get in the church. Burial took place at Millerboro. The entire community extends deepest sympathy to the sorrowing ones. J. Narver Grotner officiating. Mr. George Thompson, a brother of the groom and Miss Viola Byers, a sister of the bride acted as groomsman and bridesmaid. Only a few friends aside from relatives had been invited. A sumptuous wedding supper was served. The young people were the recipients of numerous and valuable presents. They are well and favorably known and have a host of friends, who extend congratulations and wish them a long and prosperous voyage over the sea of life together. ...The People's News, Creighton, Nebraska 13 May 1904
