Read More	WINNETOON Mrs. Carrie Thompson Passes Away at Blair Mrs. Carrie Thompson passed away Friday evening, Feb. 3, at the Courtview hospital at Blair, Nebr. Mrs. Thompson was taken ill at her home in Winnetoon during the month of September and has been bedfast since that time; the last three months in the Courtview hospital in Blair and the Clarkson hospital in Omaha. She was postmaster of the Winnetoon post office for 25 years. Mrs. Thompson was 58 years, 2 months and 21 days old at death. Emily Caroline Byers was born Nov. 13, 1880 at Kennard, Washington county, Nebr. Her parents were George and Emma Byers. She moved with her parents to Belden, Nebr. and later to Bazile Mills, where they lived a short time, then, moved to the Millerboro community. Here she was married to Fred Thompson. To this union two children were born, James and Mrs. Marguerite Raitt. In the spring of 1909, the family moved to Winnetoon, where Mr. Thompson was employed in a general merchandise store owned by his brother, George. Mr. Thompson died June 8, 1911. Three years after her husband's death, Mrs. Thompson took charge of the Winnetoon post office, where by her loyalty, she won the respect of the people. Mrs. Thompson was a Christian woman, a member of the Millerboro church, until they moved to Winnetoon. Then, she united with the Methodist church and has always been a faithful member. She was an active worker in the Sunday School and Ladies Aid Society and a trustee of the church. Funeral services were held at the Winnetoon town hall, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. Ralph Rasmussen, pastor of the Blair Methodist church, officiating. To enable the friends in the Millerobro community to pay their respect, the body lay in state at the Millerboro church a short time before burial services in the Millerboro cemetery. Interment was made by the side of her husband. Casket carriers were Henry Fredrickson, Dan Kelley, Arley Jewell, Andrew McGill, Orin Glimsdal and Elmer Clare. Surviving are her son, James, of Blair, Nebr., daughter, Mrs. Harold Raitt of Rodeo, California; two sisters, Mrs. E.J. Huiggens of Naper, Nebr., Mrs. Charles Richardson of Burke, S.D. and one brother, G.L. Byers of Butte, Nebr.; one grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Raitt and daughter, who have been in Blair several weeks, came here Monday with her brother, James Thompson. ...The Creighton News 9 Feb 1939 ******** Funeral Rites Held Tuesday for Winnetoon Postmaster Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Thompson, Winnetoon postmaster for twenty-five years, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Winnetoon Hall. Burial was made in the Millerboro cemetery southwest of Winnetoon. Mrs. Thompson, who was 58 years of age, died Saturday in a hospital at Blair, following an illness of five months.
