Fred Crump was born December 8, 1855 in Lake Mills, Wis. and passed away in his home in Chester, Nebraska on June 1, 1944 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 23 days. Mr. Crump was one of the pioneers of this community. He left Lake Mills, Wis. in 1879 and came to Concordia, Kansas, where he lived until 1883, when he came to Chester, and settled on his farm West of town. Fred Crump was born December 8, 1855 in Lake Mills, Wis. and passed away in his home in Chester, Nebraska on June 1, 1944 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 23 days. Mr. Crump was one of the pioneers of this community. He left Lake Mills, Wis. in 1879 and came to Concordia, Kansas, where he lived until 1883, when he came to Chester, and settled on his farm West of town. Like a true pioneer he broke the prairie sod, and lived on the farm until 1911 when he moved into Chester, where he lived until death claimed him. When the railroad was put in between Chester and Hebron, he used his team and scraper to help build the same. On November 20, 1881, he was united in marriage with Emma Young. To this union two sons were born. Marion having preceeded his father in death, Dec. 1913. Mr. Crump joined the Methodist Church in 1891 and proved himself a faithful member throughout these years. Many offices of responsibility were entrusted to him. These he accepted, and discharged the duties of them as a loyal Christian. He was a trustee of the Church, when the present edifice was erected. Mr. Crump was a kind, loving and devoted husband and father. A good neighbor and a faithful friend. He was the type of citizen that honored his community. Whatever was the good of the community, he supported. He leaves to mourn his departure; his loving wife, Emma Crump; his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Crump of Sheridan, Wyo. His (NOTE: the next line is upside-down) grand children, Mr. and Mrs. (NOTE: sentence reverts back to being correct) Ivan Johnson of Seattle, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Heier of Greenwood; one brother, Mr. Eugene Crump of Berlin, Wis.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bunker of Waukesha, Wis. Two great Grand Children, several nephews and nieces, other relatives and a host of friends.
