Page 1. FRED ROHLMEIER, SR. Fred Rohlmeier, Sr. was born in Schaumberg, Germany on December 11, 1849. There in his parents home he received his education, was baptized and confirmed in the German Evangelical Church. He passed away on November 7, 1933 at the home of his youngest daughter south of DuBois at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 26 days. At the age of thirteen he left his mother country and came to America, making his home with his parents near Chicago, Illinois. In the vicinity of Cook County he made his home for a period of 18 years. On March 19th, 1880, he was united in the bonds of Holy Wedlock to Miss Emilie Siske at Elgin, Illinois. This young couple made there home on a farm near Elgin, Illinois where they resided for a period of four years. From this their first home, they moved to Nebraska, settling on a farm northeast of DuBois. A few years later they bought the old home place on the Nemaha River where they lived until they moved to their home south of DuBois. To this union eleven children were born. Two of these children died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Thomas of Rulo, Nebraska and a son Fred Rohlmeier, Jr. preceded their father in death. He leaves to mourn his death, four sons, William of DuBois; August of Pawnee City; Carl and Henry of DuBois; three daughters, Mrs. John Bohm of DuBois; Mrs. Carl Kroemer of Seneca, Kansas; Mrs. Orval Hecht of DuBois; four brothers, William and August of Barrington, Illinois; Herman of Chicago, Illinois; and Edward of Humboldt, Nebraska; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Sheer and Mrs. Clara Kraft of Dundee, Illinois; and Mrs. Ida Meyer and Mrs. Hannah Peters of Barrington, Illinois; also twenty grand children and two great grandchildren, besides the entire Friedens congregation and his numerous friends of this community. Mrs. Rohlmeier preceded him in death on January 22, 1931. Mr. Rohlmeier was a well known resident of this community, having resided here for nearly fifty years. In 1930 he, with his kindly wife was permitted to celebrate their golden wedding day.. He was a man of conviction, having come to the conclusion that a thing was right he unwaveringly held to it. This was so clearly seen in his church activities. His attendance at the worship periods was with marked regularity. When a worthy cause was presente3d he could always be depended on to do his share. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Friedens Evangelical Church with Rev. O. J. Krueger in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery. From the History of DuBois, NE about the Germans who came to this area, written by Mrs. Ivan Nenec. ROHLMEIERS Fred Rohlmeier left Germany in 1852, at the age of 13 years and first settled in Illinois. While in Illinois he married Emilie Siske, and in 1884 they came to Nebraska. The first years they lived northeast of DuBois, on a farm now owned by the Farwells. Later they lived east of DuBois on a farm now known as the Carl Rohlmeier home. The family consisted of five sons: Fred, Will, August, Carl and Henry, and four daughters Mrs. Mary Thomas, Mrs. Minnie Bohm, Mrs. Emilie Kroemer, and Mrs. Lorena Hecht. The older children tell of their mother making and selling butter to the railroad crew as the railroad was being laid to DuBois.
