LAWSON DIED IN VERMILLION SATURDAY Passed Away At Home In This City On Saturday - Operated Confectionery Store and Billiard Parlor Here For Some Time - Ends Long Suffering Death came to relieve Frederick L. Lawson from his suffering on Saturday, August 20th. Mr. lawson has been in ill health for several years, having been afflicted with ulcers of the stomach for a long period of time, which finally turned into cancer, which was the direct cause of his death. Through it all he has managed to keep on his feet until a short time ago when he was forced to take to his bed and while his death has brought sadness and regret in view of the fact that he could not get well, there is the consolation that his trials, which must have been so hard to bear, are over. Frederick L. Lawson was a Vermillion boy. While not actually born here, he arrived with his parents in the city when he was but 11 weeks old. He was born in Cedar county, Nebraska, on November 22, 1890. As soon as he was of school age, he entered the grade schools and then completed his course at the Vermillion high school, graduating with the class of 1908. The same fall he entered the University of South Dakota and took up a combined engineering and arts and science course, which he pursued until his marriage. He was married on January 14th, 1914, to Miss Alevia [Alexzina] Moreau. Shortly thereafter he entered a school of pharmacy at Des Moines, Iowa. After studying pharmacy there he returned to Vermillion and entered the employ of the J. D. Hofer pharmacy as pharmacist, which position he held until he entered business for himself by the purchase of the Vincent confectionery here in June, 1915. In May, 1916, he also took over the Faringer confectionery and managed both stores until he disposed of the small store to Tom Brick. In June, 1924, he opened a billiard parlor in his own building on Main street, being the building formerly occupied by the Sage jewelry store, and continued the operation of both places until he secured possession of the Ideal billiard parlor. To mourn his death he leaves his widow, Alevia Lawson [Alexzina Moreau Lawson], two daughters, Odile, age 12; Lucille, age 11; and his aged mother, Mrs. Anna Lawson, besides a large number of friends and acquaintances.
