Read More	Columbia City Post, Whitley County, Indiana Saturday, April 22, 1916 Frederick Magley, one of the most highly respected retired farmers of Whitley county, died very suddenly Thursday night at 12:45 at his home on North Oak street. He had been working in his garden during the day, Thursday, planting potatoes, and at four o'clock Thursday evening went down town and got some onion sets and planted them before finishing up his work for the day. He had retired for the night, and about nine o'clock, he became sick and complained of his head hurting him. Dr. F. G. Grisler was called and arrived about 9:30. Before the doctor arrived Mr. Magley told his son, Will, that he would die before morning, and his premonition proved true as he passed away quietly at 12:45 a.m. The cause of death was in the nature of apoplexy or may have been due to a ruptured blood vessel in the brain. The deceased was born in Berne, Switzerland, December 28, 1837, and was the son of Conrad Magley, who came to America, accompanied by his family of nine children, and settled in Licking county, Ohio. They lived in Ohio three years, and then came to Indiana and located in Thorncreek township, where they lived upon sixty acres of unimproved land. Frederick was the last of the nine children and he died at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 23 days. At the age of 22 years, he started out in life for himself by seeking employment as a farm hand by the month. January 23rd, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Sumney, who survives. After their marriage, they rented a farm in Thorncreek township and toiled diligently until he was able to buy a farm of his own. In the meantime he bought a saw mill and was engaged in that business for some time. He died the owner of one hundred and sixty acres of fine land, but was leading a retired life, having moved from his farm, about nine years ago, to Churubusco, where he resided for two years and a half and then came to Columbia City, remaining here until his death, part of the time with his son, Will, and a year ago he and his wife moved to themselves, on North Oak street. They were the parents of five children, two surviving: William E., the photographer, and Merle, of the South Main street machine shop. Mr. Magley was always interested in the welfare of the community and was a conscientious and upright man; he was respected by all and was always honorable and fair in all his dealings with his fellow man. He was a member of the Blue River church of the Brethren, and lived up to his religious professions. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the Church of the Brethren, on the Noble-Whitley county line, also known as the Dunkard church. The funeral cortege will leave the house at 1:30 and services will be held at the church at 2:30. Interment will be made in the Round Lake cemetery.
