MAN The End Came at His Home North of Aurora June 8th Frederick Martin Christian Hahn, a highly respected pioneer of Fayette county, residing four miles northeast of Aurora, died Monday morning, July 8, 1912 at his home after a lingering illness. Mr. Hahn was born April 7, 1843 in Buetzour Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, and attained the age of 69 years, 2 months and 29 days. He with his parents emigrated to America in 1853, settling near Dayton, Michigan, until the spring of 1856, when they came to Putnam township, Fayette county, Iowa. On June 28, 1871, the matrimony union with Miss Wilhelmina Peischan was consummated; appropriate services were held in the Lutheran church at St. Sebald, Ia., for the occasion and Rev. Director G. Gossmann solemnized the marriage in a union having Jesus as corner stone. The work of peace, unity and love followed. On December 20, 1905 he lost his faithful wife, she going home after a short sickness to become a member of the triumpful church above. Her death was sadly bereaved but her survivors stimulated by her example and admonitions have made Jesus for Pilot to steer the human bark through the stormy sea of life to enter safely the haven of rest. The issue of the union were four sons and five daughters. All were christened in infancy while only eight could be Doctrinally schooled at the proper age in succession, the eldest child was not to be long of this world, and was called home at the age of 1 year, 5 months and 7 days. Mr. Hahn will be sadly missed by the older settlers and friends who have long since learned to love his sincere friendship and noble character, enthusiastic and energetic in all his undertakings, firm and aggressive in support of his faith, whether political or otherwise. Republican in hi political affiliations, German Lutheran in his religious tendencies, a modest and assuring christian. The days of his boyhood and youth were spent in attending district schools. He also attended Michigan State Normal School where he graduated with honors in 1860. He taught school both in Michigan and in Iowa and also took a medical course. He has been for many years director and member of the Fayette County Farmers' Mutual Insurance Association, also in the Iowa Mutual Tornado Insurance Co., of Des Moines, where he will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday, July 10th at 10 o'clock and at the German Lutheran church at Aurora at 11 o'clock, Mr. Rev. C. Rembold, the pastor, speaking in the German language, and Rev. Prof. G. J. Zeilinger, of Dubuque, in English, and Rev. Chas. Rembold. of Arlington, closing with a prayer. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers. Internment in the Madison cemetery. He leaves to mourn eight children; Mina M., wife of Jacob Kraft. Henry I., Elizabeth A. Magdelana C. Anna L., wife of Wm. Finck, Marie E., Arthur F. and Albert J., also four grandchildren, Elizabeth, George and Arthur Kraft and Irene Hahn. (Obit in Oelwein Daily Register, July 17, 1912, page 7)
