Evans, 84 of Urbandale, died April 12, 2008 at Mercy Hospice, Johnston. Burial in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Fred was born on Dec.26, 1923 in Newton, Iowa. He was third of eight children born to Harry and Eva May Evans. He graduated from Atalissa High School, as valedictorian, and the Universary of Iowa from which he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.S. in Sanitary Engineering. During World War II he served his country as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. Fron 1951 until 2002, Fred was employed by the Environmental Protection Agency of Iowa Dept. of National Resources. He was honored for his service with the naming of the Fred Evans Lodge in Walnut Woods State Park. Fred loved music and dancing and for many years taught ballroom and polka dancing. Hi is survived by his long-time friend Mary Young, a daughter Terri (Perry) Triggs, Ankeny, a granddaughter, Stephanie (Matthew) Baker of Ankeny, three great grandchildren, five sister and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Charles and Joe and a brother-in-law, Richard Ammeter.
