Description	:	Frederick Neumann, the son of William Gotttlieb Neumann, was born September 2, 1839, in Langenlonsheim, Germany. He received a common school education, and was taught to play the flute and piccolo. He came to America with his family in 1857, and settled on a farm near Cambridge, Illinois. Fred had his share of the manual labor to be performed on the farm, and it increased his love for the outdoors, and he remained a farmer most of his life. Read More	Frederick Neumann, the son of William Gotttlieb Neumann, was born September 2, 1839, in Langenlonsheim, Germany. He received a common school education, and was taught to play the flute and piccolo. He came to America with his family in 1857, and settled on a farm near Cambridge, Illinois. Fred had his share of the manual labor to be performed on the farm, and it increased his love for the outdoors, and he remained a farmer most of his life. Frederick Neumann served in the Civil War for 5 years in Co. F, 42nd Illinois Infantry, and was a Regimental Bugler. At one time his Co. was camped somewhere in the south about 3 miles from his brother Jacob's Co. and he could hear every one of Jacob's bugle calls. After he was honorably discharged from the army, he married Minnie Grant of Genese, Illinois. They had 2 children, Stella and Lou. Soon he had the urge to go west and with his family, traveled from place to place through several states. He would locate on a farm, and the drought or winds, or depression, would drive him farther west. In 1876 they were living on a farm in Kansas. Again the wind blew and the scorching sun was more that they could stand. His brother Charles and family lived in Sutton, Nebraska and were contented in their home town. Fred wanted to be near Charles, and moved his family to Exeter, Nebraska, which was near Sutton, Nebraska. Minnie Neumann was the family historian. She had a phenomenal memory and could recall at once the correct dates of all births, marriages, and deaths in the Neumann family. Minnie preceded her husband in death.
