He departed this life at his home in Geneva, Neb., at 9:30 p. m. Saturday, October 7, 1950, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 26 days. Mr. Picard was married in April, 1900, to Martha Schultz. Read More	PICARD, FREDERICK PALMER, SR. FRED—Fred Palmer Picard Sr. was born October 11, 1876, at Mt. Morris, Ill. He was a son of Lorenzo and Mary Picard. He departed this life at his home in Geneva, Neb., at 9:30 p. m. Saturday, October 7, 1950, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 26 days. Mr. Picard was married in April, 1900, to Martha Schultz. Mrs. Picard died October 28, 1935. To this union were born two children, a daughter, Naomi McCarthy, and a son, Fred P. Picard Jr. The son and daughter survive the father. May 9, 1941, he was married to Leila Huston. Mrs. Picard survives her husband. He also leaves four grandchildren, James McCarthy, Fred P. Picard III, Martha Picard and Linda Picard. When six months of age, Mr. Picard moved with his parents to Nebraska and resided first at Juniata and then at Kenesaw. At the age of 17 he became a registered pharmacist. Later he moved to Oklahoma, where he lived on a homestead. As a young man in 1904, he came to Geneva Neb., and purchased a drug store owned by the late G. F. Skinkle. Mr. Picard had immediate success in the operation of his business. Shortly after coming to Geneva, he acquired the two other drug stores and they were merged and the business conducted under the trade name of "The Picard Pharmacy." He was an outstanding merchant. His store was a place of business in which he took justifiable pride. His brother, Charles Picard, for many years worked with him in the operation of the store. Charles Picard died a number of years ago. Mr. Picard was ever a hard and industrious worker. He had the confidence of his business associates. He was also a man who took a prominent part in the civic activities of the community. At one time he was president of the Geneva Community club. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and was always a liberal and generous contributor to public affairs. Some years ago he retired from business and devoted a large portion of his time to travel. He and his wife visited various parts of this country and Canada. A number of years ago, Mr. Picard branched out into the wholesale oil business and operated successfully the Venus Wholesale Oil Company. Mr. Picard was ever a kindly father and grandfather, and a considerate husband. In the passing of Fred Picard, this community has lost one of its outstanding citizens and a man who for many years prior to his retirement was one of the leaders of the community. Funeral services were held at the Geneva Congregational church at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday, October 10, Rev. William G. Bohi and Rev. Ben F. Wallace officiated. Music was furnished by a male quartet, Lloyd London, Vaughn Fulton, Ralph Reemts and C. M. Humphrey, Helen Ann Huston was at the organ. Pallbearers were business associates in the Picard Pharmacy, Robert Bailey, Lawrence Doud, Allen Kline, Wilbur Pearson, Ralph Reemts and Alan Softley. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Masonic order was in charge of the graveside services. The Nebraska Signal, October 12th, 1950 page 1.
