Read More	The Annapolis Royal Spectator, Thursday, February 13, 1941 The passing of Fred W Harris yesterday afternoon is the most notable demise among the people of Annapolis Royal in a long time and sincerely to be regretted from many points of view. Mr Harris was not only a native and a leading citizen in every walk of life, but his familiarity with the people of the community, his readiness with information and helpfulness in suggestions or advice made him a friend to very many who will learn with sincerest regret that his good fellowship and ready personal ability with voice and pen have become a thing of the past. Always of a cheerful disposition and keenly appreciative of his surroundings, he invariably added to the success of any enterprise in which he became interested, while his ability for work enable him to figure eminently in much more than the programme capable of an ordinary man. He was not only a lawyer, but had been Town Clerk and Treasurer since 1898, was secretary of the local Masonic lodge, Vestry clerk of St Luke’s Parish, Stipendiary Magistrate of the Town, Past President of the Historical Association, the Order of Good Cheer and the Golf Club, Secretary of the School Board, and Honorary Colonel of the West Nova Scotia Regiment, besides being high in the Royal Arch Masonry. Mr Harris was 72 years of age, eldest son of the late Augustus and Eliza (Wheelock) Harris. His early schooling was at the Annapolis Academy, after which he studied law with Mills & Gillis, of this town, and then in Halifax with Harris, Henry & Cahan, the senior of which firm was his uncle and became Chief Justice of the Province. Fred W was admitted to the bar in 1893 and returned to his native town to practice. He was also eminent as an insurance agent and represented several leading companies. Mr Harris leaves a widow, formerly Miss Kathleen Porter, a daughter of the late Professor Porter of London, England, but many years organist of St Paul’s Church in Halifax. Also 2 sons: Major Kenneth P Harris of the West Nova Scotia Regiment, now in England, and Cecil of Medford, Mass., now here. Also 2 brothers: Arthur in Glace Bay, CB; and Louis V in Bear River and 4 sisters: Mrs Rupert Pratt and Mrs Percy Clarkson in Toronto; Mrs Allan D Jost in Sydney, CB; and Miss Maisie, RN, now here.
