Read More	Dayton Review January 10, 1946 DAYTON'S OLDEST RESIDENT PASSES AWAY FREDRIEKA EKLUND OVER 99 YEARS OF AGE DIES TUESDAY Born in Sweden on June 23rd [20th], 1846, Mrs. Fredrieka Eklund passed away at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Ecklund, Tuesday afternoon, at the age of 99 years, 6 months, and 15 days. She was, beyond a doubt, Dayton's oldest citizen and has been able to be around the house almost every day until this last week, when she has been suffering an attack of pneumonia, which caused her death. She is survived by one son, Gust, and a daughter, Mrs. Elmer Skoglund, both of Dayton, and two other daughters, Mrs. Martin Johnson of Harcourt and Mrs. Axel Anderson of Boxholm. Her husband, Swan Eklund, preceded her in death in 1927. Funeral services will be held from the Lutheran Church in Dayton at 2:00 o'clock p.m. Friday (tomorrow) afternoon. Reverend Ekeberg will be in charge, and burial will be made in Dayton cemetery. Dayton Review January 17, 1946 OBITUARY MRS. FREDRIEKA EKLUND Mrs. Fredrieka Eklund was born in Västra Götland, Sweden, June 23 [20], 1846 and was baptized and confirmed in the State of Sweden. She was married to Swan Eklund, Nov. 1, 1872 which marriage was blessed with seven children, one of which, Hanna, died in infancy. Together with three children, Mr. and Mrs. Eklund left their native land for America in 1881 and came to Dayton, Iowa. On January 15, 1882 they were received as members of the Lutheran church at Dayton and have been faithful members until the day of their passing. Two sons, Oscar and Manne, preceded their parents in death. Mr. Eklund passed away May 13, 1927 nearly 5 years after they had celebrated their golden wedding. Since Mr. Eklund's death, Mrs. Eklund has spent most of the time at the home of her son, Gust, and his wife, Emma and has been the object of devoted care and love. At the ripe old age of 99 years, 6 months and 15 days she departed this life peacefully to enter the better home above, where her deepest thoughts and desires had been for many years. She leaves to mourn her departure three daughters, Anna, Mrs. Axel Anderson of Boxholm; Tyra, Mrs. Martin Johnson of Harcourt; and Hulda, Mrs. Elmer Skoglund of Dayton and her son, Gust Eklund of Dayton, 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A nephew, C.A. Swanson of Fort Dodge and a host of friends. The grandchildren, great grandchildren are giving $25.00 to Bethphage Missions. Other relatives are giving to missions in her memory. Mrs. Eklund had gathered in earlier years a storehouse full of treasures, not of this earth, which were a source of great joy and comfort to her in her declining years. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church on Friday afternoon, January 11th, Pastor Waldo Ekeberg delivered the sermon. Mrs. B.I. Lundberg sang a Swedish hymn, "Hemma, Hemma fa vi vila" and "There's a land that is Fairer Than Day." Pallbearers were the six sons-in0law of Axel Anderson's, Harry Carlson of Gowrie; Dorrance Peterson of Fort Dodge; Clarence Swanson and Elmer Renberg of Boxholm; Arvid Carlson and Oscar Gustafson of near Harcourt. Interment took place at the Dayton cemetery with the Swanson funeral home in charge of arrangements.
