Ernest died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska. As we celebrate the life of Ernest Kracht, we would like to share what we will miss most of this amazing man. Ernie gave hugs that will last in our hearts forever. The embrace which was hard to let go of, was filled with love and showed his tender side. We saw many of these hugs shared between Marlene and Ernie during their 63 years of marriage. We will also miss the feast of pancakes, which Ernie enjoyed making in various shapes for his family. Most of us had the opportunity to "take my boots off" after Ernie spent his day working on the farm. He often encouraged us that we could do anything we set our minds to. We believe this determination and his strong will to live gave us many added years as he fought many battles. Ernie also loved to race. A quick sprint down the gravel road usually ended up with Ernie in the lead, no matter how good of shape you felt you were in! Ernie also taught us that we are just as good as anyone else, as we put our pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. We celebrate that Ernie accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and has joined his daughter, Kim and son, Kelly, his parents Charles and Josie, sisters, Vivian, Arlene and Lorraine in Heaven. Fredrick Ernest Kracht was born November 1, 1932, in Norris, South Dakota. His father Charles went to the courthouse and got his birth certificate, so he was named after Charles' brother, Fredrick. His mother, Josie, wanted him named after her brother, Ernest. So until he started school they just called him "Bub". When the teacher asked him his name, he wasn't sure. His mother explained he should have been named Ernest Fredrick, so after that he was called Ernest. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene (Nohr) Kracht, whom he met at the Fireman’s Ball in Crofton. Marlene still remembers he was wearing grey dress pants and a blue silky shirt - and he really looked sharp! They were married on August 12, 1952. He is also survived by his sons, Kenneth (Lennea) Kracht of Center, Keith Kracht of Verdigre; daughters, Kristal (Troy) Carlson of O'Neill, Karla (Marc) Van Vleet of Billings, MT and Karrie (Cory) Adams of Orchard; sixteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Ernest is survived by his brother, Lavern (Delores) Kracht; sister, Gladys (Wilfred) Thiessen; brother-in-law, Dale Holan; and many nieces and nephews and Marlene's sisters, brothers and in-laws, a huge number of friends he enjoyed, many of those friends he visited with at the sale barns and the several nurses, doctors and health care staff that he always was amazed by.
