Description	:	Fred was the son of German immigrants Friederich Jacob Oetinger and his wife, Wilhelmina Katharina Obenland. He was born in Riley County, Kansas on February 21, 1899. He was one of nine children born to the couple. Fred grew up in Riley and on a farm near Green, Kansas. Fred registered for the WWI Draft on September 12, 1918. Read More	Fred was the son of German immigrants Friederich Jacob Oetinger and his wife, Wilhelmina Katharina Obenland. He was born in Riley County, Kansas on February 21, 1899. He was one of nine children born to the couple. Fred grew up in Riley and on a farm near Green, Kansas. Fred registered for the WWI Draft on September 12, 1918. He is described on his card as being tall, with a medium build with dark brown hair and eyes. On August 4, 1920, Fred married Aleda Heinen. They had eight children: Fred, Mina, Marie, Marcell, Robert, Walter, Rex and Arnold. Fred was a framer while his wife took care of the home and family. Like many Oetingers in the area, Fred was an active member of the community. He served on the board of the EUB Church, where he was a member. For many years, Fred was a member of the Gatesville School Board. After moving to Clay Center, Kansas, Fred started working in the building trade. He built new homes in the area and also remodeled many homes. Fred also repaired furniture and toys. In his obituary, it states, "He saw beauty in wood and his gifted hands made him a craftsman." Once in Clay Center, he became active in that community's affairs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on its board. He was a 22 year member of the Methodist Men's Club. Fred died at the Bethel Hospital in Newton, Kansas after suffering a heart attack. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, where many members of the Oetinger and Obenland families were laid to rest.
