Description	:	George was the son of German immigrants Friederich Jacob Oetinger and his wife, Wilhelmina Katharina Obenland. He was born in Clay County, Kansas on September 4, 1903. He was one of eight children born to the couple. In 1917, George's family moved from near Green, Kansas to a farm in Riley County. He also lived... Read More	George was the son of German immigrants Friederich Jacob Oetinger and his wife, Wilhelmina Katharina Obenland. He was born in Clay County, Kansas on September 4, 1903. He was one of eight children born to the couple. In 1917, George's family moved from near Green, Kansas to a farm in Riley County. His father was a farmer while his mother took care of the home and family. After his mother passed away in 1919, the family farm was sold. George moved in with his older brother Fred and his family. He also lived for a time with the John Dunham family during this time. When his father remarried in 1924, George moved into their home in Morganville. George and his brother, Harvey, went into business with their father in the grocery and meat market he operated. On December 19, 1929, George married Geneva Marmon in Hanover, Kansas. They had two sons, Rex and Gary. When his father passed away in 1938, George and Harvey continued in business at the Oetinger Brothers Meat Market and Grocery until retirement in 1970. Like many Oetingers, George was active in the community where he lived. He was a member of the Bethany Methodist Church and later, the Morganville Methodist Church. He was church treasurer for 14 years. George was a member of the Morganville Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was also on the city council and volunteered for many other community activities. For 34 years, he was the treasurer of Sherman Township. And, for many years, he was a member of the Clay Center Masonic Lodge. In 1990, George fell and fractured one of his hips. A year later, he fractured the other hip. He never seemed to recover from these. George passed away at the age of 88 on July 24, 1992 at Saint Jospeh Hospital in Concordia, Kansas.
