Johnson, 76, Route 3, prominent LaMoille area farmer, dies at the University Hospitals in Iowa City Monday afternoon where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been suffering from leukemia for some time. Born Sept. 24, 1895, in Marshall County, he was the son of Lars and Maria Johansen Johnson. He received his education in this county and was a lifelong resident. On Feb. 28, 1923, at Union he was united in marriage to Viola Strawbridge and they had always farmed in the LaMoille area. Mr. Johnson was a 50-year member of Damascus Masonic Lodge of State Center, and a 50-year member of the Harlan Pfantz Post of the American Legion of State Center, he was also a charter member of the Farm Bureau Insurance Co., and a active member of the Farm Bureau. For 23 year, Mr. Johnson was treasurer of the LaMoille Congregational Church of which he was an active member. Proceeding him in death were one brother and five sisters. Surviving are his widow and four sons, Charles and Herbert Johnson of Route 3, James of Clemons and John of Union. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. B. H. (Jenny) Johnson Noid, Marshalltown, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be from the LaMoille Congregational Church at 2 p.m., Thursday with the Rev. Edward White in charge. Burial will be in the Marietta Cemetery with Masonic committal services in charge of Damascus Masonic Lodge. A memorial fund is being established.
