With other young people he came to America in 1879, and worked on a farm in Jefferson county (sic), Nebraska. There he married Katherine Titkemeyer on August 30, 1883, and this union was blessed with nine children, one of these has preceded him to the land beyond. In the spring of 1893 he moved with his family to the farm in Nuckolls county (sic) where he lived and died. ... With other young people he came to America in 1879, and worked on a farm in Jefferson county (sic), Nebraska. There he married Katherine Titkemeyer on August 30, 1883, and this union was blessed with nine children, one of these has preceded him to the land beyond. In the spring of 1893 he moved with his family to the farm in Nuckolls county (sic) where he lived and died. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church and one of the founders of Salem congregation at Smyrna. He was highly esteemed by everybody. He had been in poor health for about a year and some three months ago his condition grew serious. The disease with which he was afflicted was creeping paralysis. The last seven weeks of his life he was confined to his bed. He died Friday, March 22, at noon. On the bright afternoon of Palm Sunday he was laid to rest at the Salem cemetery at Smyrna. Many relatives and friends not only from this county, but from other places were present. The text of the sermon by Rev. Gundel was II Tim. 4:6-8. Deceased was 57 years, 1 month and 11 days old. He leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife, eight children, fourteen grand children, two sisters, four brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.
