Genevieve was a warm, sensitive, thoughtful and giving woman, with a wonderful sense of humor and ability to connect and communicate with others. She had a special ability to share with others (often in humorous and delightful ways) her lifelong memories of many events and relationships that shaped her own and others' lives. She was, in effect, her family's "memory keeper." Moreover, she was a principled and spiritual lady who lived an independent and self-sufficient lifestyle. During her early childhood, Genevieve lived with her parents and siblings on a ranch near Red Bluff. In later years, her family resided in Sacramento and Napa, where she graduated from Napa Union High School in 1944. Thereafter, she was employed in various capacities for the Christian Brothers Winery, the Napa County Engineer's Office, a Sacramento detective firm and Curtola restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a young lady, Genevieve was briefly married to George Smock of Napa. She was also a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and its marching drill team. Later, Genevieve met the man who would become her beloved partner for life, Albert J. Rogers. They were married in 1956 in Vallejo and remained together until Albert's passing in 2007. During those years, she willingly and affectionately became the "second mom" of Albert's twin sons, John and Jim Rogers. During the first decade or so of their marriage, Genevieve established households in numerous localities throughout California and the Southwest, while her husband was employed as a project superintendent by a large engineering construction company. In the 1970s, Genevieve and Albert established and operated Albert's restaurant in the Napa Valley Shopping Center in Napa, until the mid-1980s. In about 1990, Genevieve and Albert retired to live in Tehama County near Corning until their passing. Genevieve was an active member of the Corning chapter of AARP. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and twin stepsons: Richard Andrews (Susan), Hayden, Idaho; Barbara Larson (Fred), Napa; Carl Schilling, Kingman, Ariz.; Thomas Schilling (Stella), Casa Grande, Ariz.; Kathryn Kratzer-Yue, Auburn, Calif.; Russell Kratzer-Sinclair (Carolyn), Chico; Lori Kratzer, Red Bluff; Rebecca Kratzer; Phyliss (Kratzer) Babbit, Muskegon, Mich.; and John (Faye) and Jim (Diane) Rogers, Springfield, Tenn. Genevieve was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Albert; brothers, Kenneth, Myron and Andrew Kratzer; and sisters, Mable Frost and Esther Roberts.
