Description	:	Genevieve Strand Jett was born to John and Karen (Halsebo) Strand on April 9, 1921 at Sharon, North Dakota. Her parents were young immigrants from Norway when they met and settled on the farm where she grew up. Genevieve graduated from Sharon High School and followed the way of older sisters, graduating from the Mayville State College and becoming a teacher. Read More	Genevieve Strand Jett was born to John and Karen (Halsebo) Strand on April 9, 1921 at Sharon, North Dakota. Her parents were young immigrants from Norway when they met and settled on the farm where she grew up. Genevieve graduated from Sharon High School and followed the way of older sisters, graduating from the Mayville State College and becoming a teacher. She taught at Binford and Halton and after the death of her parents, moved west to teach one year in Porterville, CA. After one year in California, she moved to Washington to join other family members living in Wenatchee. Seeking a different career, Genevieve followed her sister Bertha’s advice and applied for a job at the Wenatchee World. Her interest in general news had begun at an early age through family dinner table discussions of world events as her father, who had been a teen-age sailor, had a deep interest in and many memories of world travel. The only available job at the World was as receptionist and church editor. After four months Genevieve’s next move was into the news room, and eventually she became a reporter-photographer, which lasted for eleven years. In 1960 Genevieve married Jack Jett and moved to Seattle. The couple worked together in free-lance writing and photography. Genevieve did special public relations projects for various clients such as the King County Cancer Society, the Seattle Children’s Home and the Washington State Library. Both Jack and Genevieve enjoyed golf, salmon fishing, and hiking in the Cascades. In Wenatchee Genevieve was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and in Seattle she joined the Zion American Lutheran Church, serving on the Council in each place. She also served as secretary in the Seattle Conference Lutheran Women’s Society. After moving to Waterville in 1998 she joined United Lutheran Church. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, sisters Anna and Jennie Strand, Lilly Froslie, Agnes Watne, Dagny Tinkey, and brother Ralph Strand. Survivors include sister Bertha Richert of Wenatchee, niece Marilyn Bell and E. S. Bell of Anacortes, nephews Robert Tinkey of Camas and Lee Watne of Anchorage, as well as several grand nephews and nieces and numerous cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 1:00 at the Waterville United Lutheran Church, Chelan Avenue, Waterville.
