A very large attendance attested the sympathy of the community with the bereaved ones Afterwards the procession drove to Nelson, the former home of the departed, and there another service was conducted in the Presbyterian church by her former Pastor, Rev. F.G. Knauer, who was assisted by Rev. Christie. One of the largest gatherings ever seen at a Nelson funeral was present on this occasion to pay respect to one who was dearly loved by all who had had an acquaintance with her. The body was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery (sic). Genevieve Templeton Portwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Templeton, was born July 13, 1889. She was married to Mr. H.C. Portwood on July 28, 1912. To this union were born a son, Val Dean, August 17, 1913, and an infant son who preceded the mother into the other life seven days. On Friday morning, December 1, after an illness of only one week, Mrs. Portwood passed from the earth life. She is survived by her husband and little son, her father and mother and one sister, Mrs. C.E. Boyd of Buffalo, Mont. She united with the Presbyterian church of Nelson April 6, 1902, and was a consistent and faithful member of the Presbyterian church of Edgar since the time she and her husband took up their residence there, nearly three years ago. Mrs. Portwood was a Christian. That is what lifts the gloom and changes defeat into victory and death into life. She was thoroughly, openly and always a devout follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. She lived every day in the full view of the eternity into which she has entered. Was a faithful friend, a true wife, an affectionate mother, and a kind neighbor. Kindness was her distinguishing characteristic. It touched all hearts in the circle of her influence. By kind words and deeds she raised a monument in the hearts of her friends which is imperishable. She loved her home, her friends, and the church. Many other duties claimed her time and attention, but she never neglected her home. There she shone at her best. "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
