Read More	George Albert Nun was born to Anton Nun and Anna Sieber Nun on October 17, 1909, at Ohiowa, and passed away December 16, 1992, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 29 days. He was one of five children in the family. George was born on the family homestead in Glengary Township, and was baptized on October 25, 1909, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan. He attended rural school and graduated from Ohiowa Public High School in 1926. After graduation, George helped on the family farm for several years. During these years, he also played softball with the Ohiowa team and saxophone with the Ohiowa Community Band. George was married to Angeline Stych of Ohiowa on April 21, 1938. To them three children were born. They had the opportunity to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1988. Together, they operated the family homestead until 1974, when they retired to Ohiowa, where they resided until his death. Even in retirement, George remained actively involved with the land he so dearly loved. He maintained a large garden, always sharing his bountiful harvests with family and neighbors. A friend to all God's creatures, George thoroughly enjoyed feeding and watching wild birds and squirrels. In 1977, he received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of family operation which was a source of pride for him. Another source of pride for George was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he spent numerous hours playing and telling stories about family history and his early years. Many fond memories will long remain about "grandpa" and his cane which was a favorite toy for the little ones. In 1951, George was confirmed as a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa, where he maintained membership until his death. Through the years, he also served his community ass a member of the Fillmore County Extension Board, School District 39 School Board and the Ohiowa Town Board. George was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Anna; sister, Mary Rosa; and brother, Gust. He is survived by his wife, Angeline; daughter, Bonnie and husband, Wesley Rippe; son Gorlyn and wife, Jenene, all of Ohiowa; son, Vaughn and wife Susan of Derby, Ks.; brothers, Frank of Fairbury and E. Walter and wife, Lucille of Ute, Ia.; sister-in-law, Lydia of Ohiowa; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa on Saturday, December 19, with the Rev. Roy Rasmussen officiating. Mrs. Nancy Cradduck accompanied the congregation, which sang "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pallbearers were Weldon Bornschlegl, E.D. Langhorst, Wesley Cradduck, Kermit Mussman, Joe Kaderabek and Clarence Rippe. Interment was in the Ohiowa Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 24th, 1992 page 8.
