Read More	Last Rites for Two Local Citizens are Held Here During the Past Week George Hare and Charles Chamberlain Meet Untimely Deaths In Separate Accidents Funeral services for George Hare were held from the Methodist Church here Saturday. The service had been delayed waiting some definite word from the son who is with the armed forces in the Pacific. The high esteem in which this pioneer rancher was held in this community was evidenced by the unusually large number present for the last rites. George Albert Hare was born September 17, 1885 in Montgomery County, Illinois, and was accidentally killed at his home 29 miles south of Rushville, December 4, 1942, at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 13 days. His passing marks the closing chapter of a colorful life beginning at the age of three, when he came to Sheridan County with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hare and a younger brother. He, with his mother and three younger brothers experienced the hardships of the early pioneer days, his father having died when George was 8 years old. George began working on the Modisett Ranch when still in his early teens and later he worked on the Spade and Spring Lake and other ranches where he especially liked breaking and training horses, becoming one of the best riders of that time. On March 14. 1917 he was united in marriage to Marie Surber of St. Louis, Missouri, to which union two daughters and a son were born. The father and this son were inseparable until the latter was called to the colors on February 21, 1942. Although his health had been poor for some years, lately it had become considerably worse but still he kept on working to care for the stock in his son's absence. He was a loving husband, father and son; a loyal friend and genial host - never happier than when his family and friends were gathered about him. "Whistler" as his friends called him, believed in this bit of philosophy; "It is better to live rich and die poor, that live poor and die rich," which philosophy was the making of a home to which his children and friends always liked to come. Left to mourn his untimely death are his loving wife Marie; daughter Carol of Lakeside; daughter Mona of Rushville; son Alfred - somewhere on Oahu; his mother Mrs. Lily Dykes of Rushville; brother Charles Hare of Eddington, Maine; J.W. Hare of Gordon; sister Mrs. Alton Hinton of Ashby; brothers Thomas and John Dykes of Rushville; Roy Dykes of Gordon and Bernard Dykes of Bassett. Besides other relatives and a host of friends. A brother Harry D. Hare preceded him in death. Beyond Life's Gateway There's an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone And there is light we cannot see Our Father claims His own; Beyond the gate your loved one Finds happiness and rest; And there is comfort in the thought That a loving God knows best, Burial was in Fairview Cemetery (Rushville, Nebraska) where Mrs. Hare's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Surber are buried.
