In Memoriam, The Wenatchee World, January 3, 2013 George Allen Barnhart August 17, 1919 ~ December 27, 2012 George Allen Barnhart, 93, passed away suddenly on December 27, 2012, in his home at Hearthstone Cottage Assisted Living in East Wenatchee. He was born to Jesse and May Barnhart in Antler, ND on August 17, 1919, and was raised in Wenatchee, WA, as one of eight children in his family. His six brothers included Pete, Jim, Ken, Alvin, Bill and Les and his one sister, Elvy. George worked for the Tradewell Stores in Seattle, WA at the time that he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on November 4, 1942, as an Apprentice Seaman. He served as the cook aboard the U.S.S. Kukui in Honolulu, HI in World War II and was honorably discharged from his military service with the rank of Ship's Cook Second Class on March 3, 1946. He was awarded several military service medals: Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Coast Guard Good Conduct Ribbon, and the American Area Campaign Ribbon. His civilian employment included working in the food service industry, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Western Union, and driving the Orondo school bus route for the Eastmont School district. George was also a member of the East Wenatchee Church of Christ, the Western Conference of Teamsters, and the Wenatchee Aerie No. 204 Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed his family, camping, hunting, fishing, cooking, going to garage sales, and attending his grandchildren's schooling and sporting events. George was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sister; his wife, Eloise (Tucker) Barnhart; his daughters, Kathleen (Barnhart) Michaels of Pasco, WA and Linda (Barnhart) Bull of East Wenatchee; his longtime friend, Helen Keller of Pasa Robles, CA; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Barnhart) Lehman of Idanha, OR; seven grandchildren, Robert Smethers of Beaverton, OR, Beverly Smethers of Lebanon, OR, Andrew Norman of Bothell, WA, Roger Norman of Haysville, KS, Dawnelle (Bull) Thompson of Argyle, TX, Lisa (Bull) Whitaker of Wenatchee and Kim Bull of East Wenatchee; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Hearthstone Cottage Assisted Living and Dr. Patrick Lynch for the compassion and outstanding care they've provided to George this past year. To celebrate the life of George Barnhart, a Graveside Funeral Service with Military Honors is scheduled at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery on Friday, January 4, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to a gathering in the Valley View Seventh Day Adventist Church fellowship hall in East Wenatchee immediately after the Service. Arrangements have been made by Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home in Wenatchee.
