Description	:	OBITUARY May A. Barnhart, 94, longtime resident of Wenatchee and former fruit sorter, died early Thursday morning, April 10, 1986, at her home following a brief illness. She was born May A. Shuman on May 15, 1891, at Monmouth, Manitoba, Canada. She moved with her parents to Antler, S.D., in 1905. She married Jesse Barnhart on August 1, 1908, at Grafton, N.D., where they made their home. They moved to Seattle in 1909 and later that year moved to Wenatchee. Barnhart, 94, longtime resident of Wenatchee and former fruit sorter, died early Thursday morning, April 10, 1986, at her home following a brief illness. She was born May A. Shuman on May 15, 1891, at Monmouth, Manitoba, Canada. She moved with her parents to Antler, S.D., in 1905. She married Jesse Barnhart on August 1, 1908, at Grafton, N.D., where they made their home. They moved to Seattle in 1909 and later that year moved to Wenatchee. They lived in Wenatchee until 1918, when they moved back to North Dakota. They farmed in various areas of North Dakota until 1923 when they returned to the Wenatchee Valley, living first in East Wenatchee and moving to Wenatchee in 1925. Mrs. Barnhart worked as a cook and waitress at Wenatchee Drug Store and also had worked at American Fruit (later called Ninth Street Skookum Growers) as a sorter for many years. She was a member of Wenatchee Brethren-Baptist Church United. Survivors include five sons, Pete, Kenneth and Jim, all of Wenatchee, George of East Wenatchee, and Bill Barnhart of Hesperia, Calif.; one daughter Mrs. Elva Smeltzer, Walla Walla; two brothers, George Shuman, Minot, N.D., and Norman Shuman, Scobey, Mont.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Brehm, Church's Ferry, N.D.; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, one daughter, three brothers and one sister. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Monday afternoon at 2:00 with the Rev. Jack Kennedy officiating. The interment will follow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wenatchee Brethren-Baptist Church United or to the charity of their choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley. Obit contributed by Ed Barnhart Other children of Jessie and May Barnhart not listed in the obituary in the Wenatchee World are: Eva M. (Barnhart) Smeltzer, born June 20, 1909 in Seattle, King County, Washington, died March 13, 1987 and is buried in Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington. Her husband was Robert Smeltzer.
