Description	:	Funeral services for George A. Behn, 73, retired farmer, were held at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, on Friday afternoon, June 23, at two o'clock. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery. Rev. Alvin Voile, pastor, officiated. Masonic services were held Thursday evening at eight o'clock at the Wilt Funeral Chapel. Behn was born Nov. 13, 1893, on a Cox Creek Township farm and lived in that area until a couple of years ago when he retired, sold his farm and moved to Elkader He was a son of Henry and Doris Franke Behn. In 1920 he was united in marriage to Miss Mabel Stemmer by the Rev. C. H. Franke of Elkader. The couple made their home on the Cox Creek Township farm until retiring to Elkader. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church at Strawberry Point, but later became a member of Peace UCC in Elkader. He served for a number of years on the church council. Mr. Behn was a veteran of World War I. He was also a member of the Elkader Masonic Lodge and the Cedar Rapids Consistory and Shrine. He also took an active interest in community and county affairs. He was Republican precinct committeeman for many years and served for a number of years as Clayton County weed commissioner. He is survived by his widow, Mabel, two foster children, Don Fenton, Marion, and Mrs. Richard (Dorothy Woods,) Cedar Rapids, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Stephens, Carpenterville, 111. Vocal music for his funeral service was supplied by Mrs. Lawrence Lerch and Mrs. Raymond Syverson. They were accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Jean Welsh. Pallbearers were Gerald Stahl, Frances DeShaw, Art Elvers, Milton Klink, Harvey Witte and Orville Stannard Sr.
