George Blink was born near Sandwich, De Kalb Co., IL, 15 Jun 1859, and came to Iowa with his parents when he was but eleven months of age, settling in Eden Twp., which has ever since been his home. His father, Joseph Blink, was born in Germany, 29 Mar 1834, and came to Eden township in 1860. His mother, Margaret Blink, was born in France, 15 Jul 1836. Both parents are passing their declining years in Rhodes, IA. Mr. Blink was married 15 Apr 1884, to Anna Ella Switzer, who was born in Story Co., IA, 05 Jun 1865. Solomon Switzer, her father, was born in Baden, Germany, and died in Story Co., IA in 1893. Her mother, Mary (Baldus) Switzer, was born in Baden, Germany, in 1829, and died in Story Co., IA, 25 Jun 1903. To Mr. and Mrs. Blink have been born three sons and four daughters, namely: Charles, born March 27, 1885, is engaged at present with his uncle, Martin, in the cement business in Rhodes, IA; Mary Julia Delahoyde, born February 25, 1887, resides at Dawson, IA; she has one daughter, Helen Cecelia Delahoyde, born 02 Jun 1910; Rosa Josephine, born 13 Jan 1889, died 20 May 1904; Cecelia Veronica, born 15 Jan 1889, resides at home; Joseph Henry, born 01 Feb 1891, who completed his course in the Rhodes high school in Jun, 1911, resides at home; Grace Gertrude, born 04 May 1894, attends school in Rhodes; Clarence George Theodore, born November 18 Nov 1901, also attends school in Rhodes. Mr. and Mrs. Blink have raised their family in this vicinity. Their parents were pioneers in this part of Iowa. On 19 Feb 1907, they removed from their well improved farm in section 36, State Center Twp., to Rhodes. He still retains possession of the farm, which consists of three hundred and twenty acres. By industry and good management they have secured a competence, having a home in Rhodes, well furnished, in which they enjoy all the comforts that are theirs. Mr. and Mrs. Blink, as well as all of the family, are members of the Catholic church at Rhodes. In politics, Mr. Blink is independent, and has been honored by neighbors and friends by being elected as road supervisor, school director, constable, and is at present a member of the city council at Rhodes. When their parents came here their common trading point was at Iowa City. When Mrs. Blink's parents journeyed to this then far west, Fort Dearborn, with a few additional buildings, marked the place where the city of Chicago now stands. Unostentatious in manner, a good husband, a kind, indulgent father, George Blink is a type of the individuals who by their hospitality have lightened the burdens of many weary travelers who have passed through this region in search of the best in the unclaimed west. CAUSE OF DEATH: Apoplexy brought on by a stroke a week earlier. MARRIED: 15 Apr 1884, Sts. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church Story Co.,IA. CHILDREN: Joseph 'Joe' Harold, 01 Feb 1894 - 10 Apr 1978 & Clarence G., 1901 - Oct 1985
