One of the enterprising farmers of Eden Twp. who has been most industrious from his boyhood up and who has lived a life consistent with good principles is Leopold Blink, who was born on the farm where he now resides, 28 Dec 1868, being the descendant of a well known old family here, the members of which have played well their parts in the upbuilding of Marshall Co. Realizing all along that no better farming country was to be found than this, he has spent his entire life here. His father, Joseph Blink, was born in Germany, 29 Mar 1834, there grew to maturity and was educated, emigrating to Eden Twp., this county, in 1860. He married Margaret Halter, who was born in France, 20 Jul 1836. These parents are passing their declining years in a well furnished and cozy home in Rhodes. Leopold Blink was educated in the public schools of his home community which he attended during the winter months, working on the farm in the summertime. On 18 Aug 1897, he was married to Ida E. Retz, of Sornonauk, La Salle Co., IL, where she was born, 08 Jul 1871. Her father, Edward Retz, was born in Alsace, France, 25 Aug 1826. He came to America when a young man, landing in IL with four dollars and fifty cents, but he was a hard worker and a man of tact and business ability, and before he died he became the owner of twelve hundred acres of valuable land. His death occurred on 04 Jan 1900. His wife was Rosella Rohrer, who was born in St. Blaze, France, 25 Oct 1831, and died 08 Mar 1911. They came to the United States in 1848. To this union fourteen children were born. This family belong to the Catholic church and are faithful in their support of the same at Rhodes. Mr. Blink has served a number of terms as school director. Mr. Blink has been very successful as a general farmer and stock raiser, and he is the owner of a choice and well improved farm of two hundred and forty acres in sections 22 and 26. His large, modern concrete barns and substantial outbuildings, in addition to his modernly equipped, neatly kept and attractive home; bespeak success and cultivated tastes.
