Slager, son of Anthony and Mary Slager, was born on a farm in Iowa County April 16, 1880. On December 20, 1905, he was united in marriage to Emma Meyer at the Lutheran church in Lincoln Township. They located on a farm near Victor, where they made their home for five years, after which they moved to the present farm southeast of Victor where he was living at the time of his death. George, as all knew him, was a devoted husband, a good father, a kind neighbor, and a friend to everyone. His health had been failing since 1950 and he had had to give up active farming. He was taken to the St. Francis hospital in Grinnell last Thursday morning, where he was given the best medical aid and care. The end came suddenly Saturday morning at 12:35 at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, one daughter, Mrs. Alma Whitaker of Oskaloosa, one granddaughter, Marsha Kay; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Klever and Mrs. Estelle Klever, both of Williamsburg, besides other relatives and many friends. Services were held from the McAnich chapel at 1:30pm Monday, March 30, with the Rev. Martin Greer officiating. Arthur Lang sang two solos, "In the Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", with Mrs. George Keller at the organ. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Delamer Shultz and Mrs. Maurice Seye. The casket bearers were Allen and Delamer Shultz, Maurice Seye, Ed Haag, Willie Smith and Bill Schlesselman. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery at Victor.
