Mr. Slager was born December 27, 1884, in Pilot Township, a son of Anthony and Mary Slager. He was married to Hazel Figg on Jan. 3, 1917 at the home of his parents, and they made farming their occupation, living in the Marengo and Williamsburg vicinities. They moved to Center Point in February of 1945. Mr. Slager died at his home there Wednesday, October 9 after a lingering illness of the dread disease, cancer. He was patient and uncomplaining throughout, resigned to his affliction, and his unfailing good humor and cheerfulness prevailed to the end. His age was 61years, 9 months and 16 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; two sons, Dale of High Amana and Carroll, with the US Army, stationed at Camp Campbell; one daughter, Mrs. LaVera Meyer of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, George of Victor and William of Williamsburg; and three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Klever, Mrs. Fred Klever and Miss Mary Slager of Williamsburg. One son, Eldon, was killed in action on April 8, 1944. Mrs. Slager was a member of the Methodist church at Marengo and was affiliated with the IOOF.
