Son of Samuel McClure Pottorff and Corintha Jane Kinder OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, January 8, 1985 POTTORFF George Delano Pottorff, son of Sam and Corintha Kinder Pottorff, was born April 5, 1886 in Kansas and departed this life on Dec. 17, 1984 at the age of 98 years and nine months. As a young boy, he came to Iowa with his family in a covered wagon. On Dec. 1, 1915 he joined in marriage to Ida Marker. To this union three sons were born, Glen, Orbin and Clyde. He spent nearly all of his life farming near Norwood. His farm, family and hard work were his life - a life he loved. His wife Ida died in 1933 and he later married Mrs. Ilma Amos, who also preceded him in death in 1954. He lived on the farm until 1976 when, in his eighties, he moved to Chariton. Also preceding him death were two sisters, three brothers, all three sons and a daughter-in-law. Also a very close and dear friend, Alta Lemon. He leaves to mourn his passing two granddaughters, Betty Mays of Russell and Patty Carter of Chariton; a grandson, Ron Pottorff of Lacona; a step-son, Homer Amos of Knoxville; a step-daughter, Leona Churchill of Chariton; also four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, 1984 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Stein conducting. Burial was in the Fletcher Cemetery. Bearers were Joe Gillaspy, Chester Young, Vern Chandler, Cecil Houseman, Albert Chandler and Bill Dachenbach.
