Description	:	George is the son of Joseph McIntosh and Anna "Ann" (Murray) Gunn. He was born in what later became; Scotland, Bon Homme County, South Dakota. He is the 5th of eight children born to them and was the first (white) child born in that part of Dakota Territory. He's schooling was by and Uncle who started the first school there, and he helped on the farm until leaving to go to college. He is the 5th of eight children born to them and was the first (white) child born in that part of Dakota Territory. Here is somewhat of an edited Bio written by his youngest son George Parkinson Gunn for a family history book on the "GUNNs of Kinlochlaggan"; "George Donald Gunn's education took him thorough the state agricultural College of Ames, Iowa, for which he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Science in 1895. Shortly thereafter, he met his future wife, Anna Belle Parkinson, who was born in Iowa but at 3 months old she and her family went by covered wagon to York, Nebraska. Father George Donald and mother Ann Belle Parkinson Gunn were both teachers in central Nebraska before and after their marriage, in Dec of 1897 in Lexington, Nebraska. As such, they were granted an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Spanish-American War had flared on and off, until it was finally settled in 1902. William Howard Taft was appointed the first civil governor, and the Philippine Bill of 1902 was passed by Congress calling for, among other things, the establishment of a comprehensive system for education in the islands. This required school teachers equipped to go to the islands to teach English and related subjects to the Filipinos. George Donald, Anna Belle and Son Errett applied, were accepted and following a long sea journey, arrived at the post of Misamis in Northern Mindanao, where they played their part in educating and befriending the natives as family members of the world's first peace corps.[Note: According to information from oldest son Errett Gunn his father George contacted an illness while in the Philippines which impaired his hearing to the extent that he was unable to continue teaching, so they returned to Nebraska, where they homesteaded a dryland hill farm in Robb Precinct in Gosper County. There two other sons were born Arthur Joseph in 1908 and George Parkinson in 1910.] Soon after their return to Nebraska, Dad's hearing became worse and forced him to re-think his future. A decision was made to move to South Florida. By this time, 1913, their family had grown to include Arthur, my self ages 5 and 3 respectively and of course, Errett who was now 14. The farm was rented out, and the family headed for Miami. There Dad laid the groundwork for his business career, realized finally in Jacksonville in 1918, as southeastern representative of the nation's leading produce newspaper, "The New York Packer". The following eleven years – until the market crashed in 1929 – were mixed ones for the George Donald Gunn family. Brother Errett (Shorty Gunn) matured into a 6 foot six baseball pitcher and starred at center for the University of Florida Gators football team in the early 1920's. Brother Arthur proved to be a brilliant student, although not in the best of health. He graduated from Duval High School in 1927 with honors. As for me I had come along at the right time and in the right place. In and out of college from 1929 to 1932. I finally put the right number of jobs together at the University of Florida in Gainsville to allow me to complete my education in 1935. [Note: he was a baskball wizard in high school and later at the U of F. He was captain of the "Gator Team which all but won the conference title for Florida in 1934. The Gators were sumerged in the final game.] Instead of taking a coaching job I was offered, I chose to ramain in radio as a beginning announcer. Which later lead to my doing not just Radio but also T.V. after I ended up in New York [Note: he wrote more of his jobs and such, I greatly shortened and didn't add to this on his father.] Arthur assisted father in a business venture which was soon killed by an already weak economy in Florida, followed by the Market crash and the advent of the Depression. In the devastation that followed, Dad lost the farm to taxes but managed to hold on to the house in Jacksonville. Dad's loss of hearing became increasingly evident during this period. He lacked today's fine instruments for the hard of hearing. My brother Authur died in 1931, then in 1935 the matriarch of the family, Dad's mother (Ann Murray Gunn) died at the age of 97. Because of this and the continually worsening business climate, he was replaced in his "packer" job. Dad was struck by a hit-and-run car as he alighted from a street car near our home in Jacksonville. He just didn't hear the car coming. He lingered for sometime and died in Aug of 1939, at 68 years of age."
