Description	:	Her parents moved to Dakota Territory when she was just 2 years old (1869), from Canada. Her father Joseph McIntosh Gunn, is listed in "The History of the County Bruce", Ontario. As one of the first settlers. He and five of his brothers left their parents, one brother and two sister in Kinlochlaggan, Scotland to find better lives, in 1850. Her mother Anna Murray came to Canada in 1857, with her parents John and Isabella McIntosh Murray. Her father was 1st cousin to Sir John A. McDonald the first Premier of Canada. Her mother Anna Murray came to Canada in 1857, with her parents John and Isabella McIntosh Murray. Her father was 1st cousin to Sir John A. McDonald the first Premier of Canada. Her father also was a decscendant of Mary, Queen of Scots. She and all of her siblings (8, 4 born in Canada, 4 born in S.D.) all lived through 2 major blizzards in the 1870's and others, as well as terrible epidemics of diphtheria and scarlet fever in the early 1880's, not to mention other minor epidemics. The area they settled in South Dakota, is Scotland, Bon Homme County. Her father and two of his brothers, with some cousins, along with some others that came later from Canada, set up a nice villiage. General Charles T. Campbell wanted to put in a stage route for mail. Which in order to have a post office they needed to name the town. He wanted to name it "Gunnville" but the brothers refused, with that the General swore and then said, "We will call it Scotland,then!". When her father died in 1869. Her brother John, Hugh and herself were already gone from Scotland, S.D. Having gone with John to Omaha, Ne., where he sold insurance, later going to work for the railroad, with that job landing them in Lexington (Plum Creek) Nebraska. Where she began teaching school in the area. Her mother and 3 other sisters (who also all taught school in the area) following the next spring (1890), after their hired man had stampeded their cattle, that were never found. (?) She married Frederick A. Manke in 1896. They had one son. Marion Gunn Menke, born Jan 26, 1904. Marion may of died from Childbed Fever, since her son would of been about 5 days old at her passing.
