Description	:	"Pop" Lewis was born George Washington Lewis, in Carbondale, February 18, 1890, in Jackson County, Illinois, the son of William Harrison Lewis and Mary I. "Bell" Tune. However, somewhere down the line, he changed his name to George E. Lewis and later when asked if the "E" stood for Edward, he simply accepted it. However, somewhere down the line, he changed his name to George E. Lewis and later when asked if the "E" stood for Edward, he simply accepted it. He also changed his date of birth, because he thought Grama's father would think him too old to be dating his daughter. All this information didn't come to light until Uncle Harold went to visit with Aunt Laura. While he was there he saw the old family bible and noted his father's name and age. Around 1914 or 1915, George left Illinois to go to Colorado. The last time Bill Newman saw George was early one morning. George had been renting a room at a rooming house near by. The house was run by a lady named Susie Cruse. Now Susie was a married woman, yet he was warm for her "form." Whether George left the rooming house, out his bedroom window and down a tree, in the middle of the night, because of Susie or her husband is not known. When he went by Bill and Dora Newman's to say he was leaving. Bill remembered that is was kind of peculiar ... because there were branches and sticks, sticking out of his suitcase. It is my impression that he never went back Illinois. George and Eva Della Fleenor, married March 18, 1917, in Austin, Colorado. Together they had five boys, Stanley, Cecil, Charles, Harold, Roger and one daughter, Jeanne Irene. He worked for the Union Oil company and the family lived on the Brea-Olinda Oil lease for sometime. His favorite food was corn on the cob and his favorite candy was hard butterscotches. Lewis, a long-time employee of the Union Oil Co. and a resident of Fullerton for the past 33 years, died Thursday at a Norwalk hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 72. He lived at 420 E. Amerige Ave. Mr. Lewis was born Feb. 18, 1890 in Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Della, of the home, and five sons, Roger of Fullerton, Cecil of Anaheim, Stanley of La Mirada, Harold of California and Charles of Ohio and one daughter, Mrs. Gene Haggarman (sic Jean Hagerman) of Arlington. Survivors include 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at McAulay and Suters Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Harry F. Steif, of the Anaheim Lutheran Church, in charge of services. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Memorial Park, Brea.
