Read More	SPRINGVIEW HERALD Thursday, November 25, 1965 Springview, Keya Paha Co NE George Edwin Childs, son of Arthur Benson and Carrie Thornton Childs, was born June 30, 1893 at Tilden NE and died Nov. 15, 1965, at his home in Springview NE at the age of 72 years, four months, 15 days. With his parents he came to Keya Paha Co in February 1908. He was united in holy matrimony to Gladys Pearl Rector March 18, 1914 at the home of the bride. To this union were born two children, Gerald and Eula. They made their home in the Norden community until 1925, when the family moved to Springview. Mr. Childs entered the general merchantile business when he came to Springview. He has given service to the community as a member of the Board of Regents of Keya Paha Co High School, the Village board, the Service Club, the Official Board of Community Methodist Church. He served the county in the office of County Treasurer for two and 1/2 years. In May of 1965 Mr. and Mrs. Childs received the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award. Mr. Childs became a member of the Methodist Church at Norden June 13, 1909, and transferred to the Springview Methodist Church Sept. 5, 1926. He has taken an active part in the program of the church and has served as Lay Leader and a member of the Board of Stewards and the Board of Trustees. He was a member and a Past Master of Silver Cord Lodge of Masons of Ainsworth NE, a member of George Linegar Knights Templar Lodge of Long Pine NE, a member and a Past Patron of Springview Chapter No. 205 Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Springview; one son, Gerald El Childs, of Ainsworth; one daughter, Eula (Mrs. Robert Baird) of El Paso TX; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Carrie Childs of Ainsworth; two brothers, John and Ivan, of Schottsbluff NE; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Lynn Fegley and Mrs. Glenn Masters, of Ainsworth. The funeral service was held on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2:00 pm at the community auditorium in Springview, conducted by the Rev. C. C. Norlin, pastor of the Springview Methodist Church. Music was provided by mrs. T. G. Weddel, pianist and a male quartet; Leonard McCormick, Howard McCormick, David VanMetre, Ceile Ripley. Burial was in the Ainsworth Cemetery. Masonic rites were performed at the cemetery by members of the Ainsworth lodge.
