Read More	Stratford Courier September 24, 1936 GEORGE VEDEEN IS VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK MONDAY George Vedeen, very highly respected citizen of Stratford, died of a heart attack Monday night about 8 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Vedeen had retired for the night when she noticed that her husband was not breathing naturally. She arose at once and called medical aid but he had passed on before a doctor could attend him. He was 70 years old and had been in his usual health although he had a times before suffered attacks of heart trouble. He leaves his sorely bereaved wife and one brother, Jonas, who had made his home in the Vedeen domicile for many years. Several sisters and brothers have preceded him in death. A number of years ago he retired from active farm work and purchased the present dwelling and had since lived in town where he took an active part in civic and church work. He was a prominent member of the local Baptist church and had contributed freely to it at various times. His death came as a real shock for his friends were many and all were legion. Funeral services will be held this afternoon in the local Baptist church at 2:00 o'clock following a brief family service in the home at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. A.E. Appelquist will be in charge. Interment will be in the South Marion cemetery. Stratford Courier October 1, 1936 Obituary George Vedeen Funeral services for the late George Vedeen were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Swedish Baptist church, of which deceased was an honored member. A short prayer service was held in the family home at 1:30 o'clock and both were in charge of the pastor of the church, the Rev. A.E. Appelquist. At the church service, Mr. A.E. Appelquist and Mrs. Everett Bergman sang, "The Last Mile of the Way" and "Does Jesus Care?". Mrs. Appelquist sang as a solo in Swedish, "Some Sweet Day." The Rev. Mr. Appelquist used for the text of his discourse, I Samuel 20:3: "There is but one step between me and death." His sermon was a real comfort to all. Following the close of the service the remains were interred in South Marion cemetery. The pallbearers were Nels Westrum, C.A. Swanson, Carl Bergman, E.D. McAnally, Jonas Angstrom and F.A. Carlson. George Vedeen was born in Hälsingland, Sweden, Jan. 28, 1866 and died in his home in Stratford, Sept. 21, 1936, at the age of 70 years, 9 months, 24 days. He came to America with his parents, brothers and sisters, in 1867, coming directly to Stratford which has been his home ever since. He attended the rural schools and grew to young manhood on his father's farm. He was united in marriage to Miss Helen Bergman of Des Moines on Feb. 27, 1908, and they lived on the old home farm, about four miles north of Stratford until fifteen years ago when they moved into Stratford. In May, 1921, deceased and his wife were converted, baptized and united with the local Baptist church of which he was a faithful member until his death. The past ten years he held the office of deacon of the church and was always interested in the welfare of the church and was willing to do more than his part. He will be greatly missed but he placed his faith in his God, who has the number of our days in His hand. Not only in the church will he be missed for he was an outstanding, honest and upright citizen whom it was a pleasure to know and to meet, the type of man all delight to honor. Surviving are his wife, one brother, Jonas, who had his home with deceased for many years, one niece, five nephews and many other relatives and a host of friends. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Vedeen, and three sisters have preceded him in death. "You have walked in the shadow, And walking in the light; You have traveled the vale and hill.
