He first appears in the records of Westmorland County, New Brunswick, 16 March 1818 as a resident of the township of Salisbury. At that time he applied for 200 acres of land from the Crown. He first appears in the records of Westmorland County, New Brunswick, 16 March 1818 as a resident of the township of Salisbury. At that time he applied for 200 acres of land from the Crown. He later received 300 acres when he stated that he was married before the original petition had been acted upon. He probably came to New Brunswick in 1816. His marriage to Jerusha Wortman took place 24 June 1818 in Westmorland County, New Brunswick. The marriage record is preserved in the Fort Beausejour National Historic Park Museum at Aulac, New Brunswick. About 1824 or 1825 the Fosters moved to Harrison County, Ohio, with their three children and settled in North Township. There George Foster opened a farm in the town of Scio and also taught school. He was active in politics, being first a Whig and later a Republican. He served in some township offices. An enthusiastic anti-slavery man, he was a station agent on the Underground Railroad. On 31 July 1828 he applied at the Court of Common Pleas in Harrison County for naturalization. His farm contained 120 acres and was apparently a successful operation. In his will he describes this farm as "the plantation on which we now reside." Jerusha Wortman Foster died 11 September 1836 at Scio, leaving seven children. George Foster married again 24 May 1837 to Mrs Jane (Shouse) Davis, a widow with one son. She was the mother of five children by George Foster. George Foster died 8 June 1849 in Scio, Harrison County. He is buried in the Scio Methodist Church cemetery, beside his two wives and two of his sons. The Foster monument in this burial ground was one of the few remaining when the compiler visited the site in 1959. The following inscriptions are on the tombstone: J. B. Foster, born 7 May 1838; died 1 August 1889. Jane, wife of George Foster, born 14 October 1809; died 16 June 1889.
