Lupton, Colo., who met death in an accident while working with a team in a sugar beet field. George Schwab was born on the Adam Schwab farm northeast of Hooper 59 years ago this month, moving to his present location in 1907 where he has since resided. Immediate relatives in Hooper and vicinity are two sisters, Mrs. Edw. Stroh and Mrs. Otto Pfeiffer, and two brothers, Jake and Rina Schwab. Sisters living in Colorado are Mrs. Ralph Bangert of Ft. Lupton and Mrs. Frank Colberg of Littleton. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Obituary - George Fred Schwab The Hooper Sentinel October 30, 1941 Rites Held for Accident Victim Services for George Fred Schwab of Fort Lupton, Colo., were held at the Zion Lutheran church of Hooper Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. W. J. Wolff, pastor of the church, officiating and with many relatives and old time neighbors and friends of the family in attendance. A prayer service at the Edward Stroh home preceded the rites at the church. Music for the services was by Mrs. Fred Hunteman, Mrs. George Hunteman, Herbert Blomendal and Clarence Wagner with Miss Grace Blomendahl as organist. Serving as pallbearers were Fred Busch, Joe Nelson, Frank Schwab, Howard Weigle, Martin Uehling and Carl W. Wagner. Interment, directed by Wollmer & Warne, was made in the Hooper cemetery. The body of the accident victim arrived in Hooper Saturday accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Ralph Bangert, and her son, Delbert, of Fort Lupton, services having been held the previous day at his home city. Out of town relatives and friends present for the services in addition to the Ft. Lupton relatives were: Messrs and Mesdames Robt. Schwab, Will Edelman and Vernon Nelson, Mrs. Alta Rigby and daughter, Miss Susie Pfeiffer and M. A. Uehling, all of Fremont, Mrs. August Uehling, Scribner; Mr. and Mrs. Edw. Uehling, Mrs. Clifford Uehling, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Golder, all of Uehling, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Stroh, E. A. Schwab and Louis Stroh, all of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Weigle, Ames, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Webb, West Point. The following account of the fatality was taken from the Fort Lupton Press and gives the compete details of the accident; "George Schwab, who for the past 34 years has lived on a farm 2 miles north and one-half mile east of Fort Lupton, was killed by a runaway team Wednesday afternoon shortly before 4 o'clock. Schwab, who lived alone, had gone to the field with a team and wagon to gather a small load of hay from shocks. The exact manner in which the accident happened is not known, but Mrs. Albert Walters, who lives near the scene of the accident, saw the team running away and it was presumed that he was knocked to the ground and run over. "A physician was summoned but Schwab died shortly after the doctor's arrival. Weld County Coroner, T. C. Wilmoth was called. He pronounced the cause of death a basal skull fracture. "The Lefferdink ambulance brought the body to Fort Lupton where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Lefferdink funeral chapel. Interment will be made at Hooper, Nebr. "Mr. Schwab was born October 14, 1882, at Hooper, Nebr. Thirty-four years ago he moved to this farm with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Schwab, who passed away seven years ago. Since their death he has chosen to live alone although members of his family have insisted that he share their home or take his meals with them. "He is survived by four sisters; Mrs. Ralph Bangert of north of Fort Lupton, Mrs. Frank Colborg of Littleton, Mrs. Ed Stroh, and Mrs. Ella Pfeiffer of Hooper, Nebr.; Two brothers, Reinhold and Jacob, also of Hooper, Nebr."
