Vance, youngest son of Bradley and Julian Vance, was born near Spring Hill on January 31st, 1873 [1874], and after a few days illness died at his home in Austin, Minnesota, October 27, 1920, aged forty-seven years, eight months, and twenty-seven days. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides these four dear girls, four sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. He was a kind and loving father and will be greatly missed by his loved ones. A precious father from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled The boon his love had given And though the body slumbers here, The father is safe in Heaven. Mr. Vance's daughters and sisters desire to thank the friends who so kindly assisted them in their sorrow and trouble. # # # Thurs., November 4, 1920 The Advocate-Tribune Indianola, Iowa George T. [F.} Vance, for many years a resident of Spring Hill, was instantly killed in a runaway near his home in Austin, Minn., October 27. Mr. Vance moved to Minnesota about one year ago. His body was brought back to Spring Hill and buried in the Webb Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Grisby. # # # Thurs., November 18, 1920 Indianola Herald Spring Hill (crowded out last week.) - Since our last writing there have been two funerals held in the M.E. church here. George Vance, formerly of this place, died at his home in Austin, Minnesota, and the remains were shipped back here for burial. Grandma Romine, mother of Mrs. D.D. Hughes, passed away at the Hughes home, Saturday, October 30. Both were buried at the Webb cemetery. # # # Note: To the left of the large stone of Geo F Vance and his wife, Mamie M (McGlothlen) is a medium size stone inscribed with Father. To the right of the large stone is a medium size stone inscribed with mother. The gravesite was dowsed in 2015. The findings were: An adult male is buried behind the Father stone, a male adult buried behind the large stone, an adult female buried behind the large stone, and an adult female buried behind the Mother stone. If anyone has any recollection or info about the sequence of these burials please share info with Webb Cemetery trustees. We are especially interested in locating the grave of Geo F. Vance (Sr ??)& his wf, Harriett Mays or Mayo. He served in the Civil War, born Jan 31, 1835 in Indiana and died Oct 23, 1923.
