Description	:	George Lawrence Whitney, Jr., the son of George L. and Francis (Eyre) Whitney, was born on May 25, 1926 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away at his home on September 20, 2008 in Superior at the age of 82 years. He attended the Superior Public School System, graduating with the class of 1944. Read More	George Lawrence Whitney, Jr., the son of George L. and Francis (Eyre) Whitney, was born on May 25, 1926 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away at his home on September 20, 2008 in Superior at the age of 82 years. He attended the Superior Public School System, graduating with the class of 1944. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp after high school and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Arma Jean Ross on August 24, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Superior. He attended Hastings College at Hastings, Nebraska and then returned to Superior in 1950 to work with his father in the Whitney Insurance Agency. He retired in 2002. He was the City Clerk for Superior for 33 years and managed the office of the Superior Sale Barn for many years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the American Legion and the VFW all of Superior. Larry loved to hunt and fish with his children, collecting guns, target shooting and he especially enjoyed reading all kinds of history and war books. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Arma Jean of Superior, daughter Barbara Thompson and husband Justin of Superior, sons; Charles Whitney and wife Phyllis of Hastings, NE, James Whitney and wife Dana of Omaha, NE. Three grandchildren, Kelly Knigge of Flower Mound, Texas, Angela Thompson-Paul and husband James of Dallas, Texas and Michael Thompson of Lincoln, Nebraska. One great-grandson Jack Knigge. Three step-grandchildren, Todd and Brandon Beaumont and Michelle Tallant all of Omaha, Nebraska and five step-great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ashlie, Chase, Kiley and Alyssa along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating. Music was "The Old Rugged Cross, " and "Amazing Grace," with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Erickson as organist. Pallbearers were James Whitney, Charles Whitney, Mike Thompson, Ben Connell, Brandon Beaumont, Justin Thompson, Mike Ross, and Todd Beaumont. Interment with full military rites was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
