Mrs. A.J. Bruce sang "Still, Still with Thee." Mrs. J.R. Hume was at the organ. Pallbearers were Chad Carlson, Evert Brandt, Boyd Palmer, Bert Cox, Norman Petersen and Lloyd Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were John Cutler, Louis Petersen, Leonard Wolfe, Gordon Baker, Martin Swanson and Henry Georgesion. Burial was in the Tekamah cemetery. Mr. Grothe, the son of Herman and Melinda Grothe, was born July 17, 1874 at Decatur. He died February 4, 1960 at the Blair Memorial hospital of a heart ailment. He was 86. He married Viola Morrow on March 1, 1899. They had three children, Edith M., Lloyd G. and LeRoy M. His wife and Edith and LeRoy preceded him in death. His parents; his brothers, Harry and Clyde, and two other brothers who died in infancy, and a sister, Hattie Betchelder, also preceded him in death. Mr Grothe farmed in the Silver Creek and Riverside communities for many years. In 1911 he was appointed superintendent of the County Farm. He was a successful farmer and maintained an active interest in agriculture until his death. An active member of the Tekamah Baptist church at the time of his death, Mr. Grothe in his earlier years was a member of the Riverside Baptist church and later a member of the Silver Creek Baptist church. Survivors are a son, Lloyd G. Tekamah; two granddaughters, Beth Grothe of Omaha and Janet Grothe of Seattle, Wash; two grandsons, Earl Grothe, now in the armed forces; and George Grothe of Tekamah; a sister Mrs. Jessie Langley of Tekamah; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
