Read More	Transcription of his headstone was so kindly made by Becky - FAG member #48372065 (above the transcription there is a cross and under that is "IHS") In Memory of GEORGE MACATEE who departed this life on the 26th day of January 1788 in the 42nd Year of his Age ========== Born about 1746 ===== Military: Swore Oath of Allegiance on Feb 4, 1778 to Mar 2, 1778 ===== Military: From the Revolutionary Muster Rolls of Charles County Militia at the Maryland Historical Society: 1777--George MacAtee, sergeant in Captain William McPherson's Company of the 26th Battalion Militia of Charles County during the Revolutionary War ===== He and family lived in Deer Creek, Harford Co., Maryland, USA ===== Listed in the Port Tobacco Upper Hundred, 1775-1778 census of Charles Co., MD ===== His headstone is considered the oldest in the cemetery--spelled his name MacAtee as did the rest of his descendents ===== He was not named in his father's will, but named in his brother Edmund's will as being in Harford Co., MD ===== In Charles Co., MD on 2/9/1768 he married Elizabeth Hamilton, the daughter of Patrick Hamilton and Ann Green. Elizabeth MacAtee, the wife of George MacAee, and the daughter of Patrick Hamilton, was called niece and received a legacy in the will of her Uncle Samuel Hamilton (H:292). In 1770 they were living in the Upper Hundred of Port Tobacco. In 1778 George McAtee took the Oath of Allegiance in Charles Co., MD. In 1777 he is given as a sergeant in the 26th Battalion Militia of Charles Co.,MD --see above). By 1778 he and Elizabeth were living in Harford Co., MD. In 1783 George Macatee purchased two tracts in Deer Creek Middle Hundred called " Isaac's Enlargement" and "Donavon's Choice." George Macatee died 1/26/1788 in Harford Co., MD and was buried in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Hickory, MD. When Elizabeth filed papers for his estate on 12/16/1788 his next of kin were given as Jane Macatee and Benjamin Green (file #429). his widow, Elizabeth was listed in the 1790 census of Harford Co., MD with five sons, six daughters, another man, and six slaves. ===== Newspaper Abstracts of Cecil and Harford Counties MD, 1822-1830 By F.
