Injuries received in a coasting accident caused the death of Melvin George Ingels, 11 years old, at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Atchison hospital. Yesterday, at noon, he sustained a fractured skull when his sled struck a boulder at the bottom of the hill. His head struck against the rock, and he was unconscious when found. Early yesterday afternoon surgeons operated on him, but the operation was unavailing. The fatal accident occurred near Sixteenth and Santa Fe streets, the sled plunging into a ditch. The unfortunate boy was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ingels, 1520 Atchison street. He was a popular boy, and there is much grief in the city over the tragedy. Melvin George Ingels was born in Boulder, Colo, February 15, 1907. His father was a railroad employe there at the time. About five years ago the Ingels family moved to Atchison, and he has lived here since that time. He attended the Franklin school,l where he was a pupil in the Sixth grade. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Theola, age 14, and Dorothy, age 8 and two brothers, Fred, jr., age 10 and Kenneth, age 9. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Ingels, and an uncle, Lon Ingels, live at 1610 Atchison street, and an aunt, Mrs. John Griffin, lives at 516 Fleming street. The funeral service will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Stanton funeral home, with Rev. Walter E. Harman in charge. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery.
