Description	:	George Lathrop Moore was born on June 13, 1828 in Kidderminster, England to Thomas and Anne Moore. According to a1841 England Census Report he resided in Kiddeminster with his parents and three siblings; Thomas Jr, Matthew and Anne. George arrived in the United States in 1843 according to information gathered in the 1900 US Federal Census Report. George Moore and Mary Colton Olmsted were married on April 26, 1850. The 1856 Iowa State Census reports the family having moved to Fairview, Iowa where George Sr. worked as a laborer to support the family. The US Federal Census Report shows that by 1860 the family had moved to their own property near the town of Fairview, Township, Linn County, Iowa and George Sr. farmed his land for a living. Indexed county land ownership maps support this land ownership information. Fairview Township is located about 4 miles south of Anamosa, Jones County, Iowa, and should not be confused with the community with the same name, Fairview Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, which is about 90 miles north of Anamosa. Norwick Cemetery, north of Martelle, was once a part of George Moore's farm. George donated the land for the cemetery, but George and his wife, Mary, were not buried there, but at Wilcox Cemetery. Mary's mother, Mary Ann (Moore) Moore, wife of Thomas William Moore, Sr. was also buried at Wilcox Cemetery. George Moore registered for the Civil War draft in the 2nd Congressional District in 1863. He probably didn't serve since, by this time, he had a wife and six children to support. The 1870 and the 1880 US Federal Census Reports find the family still living near Fairview, Iowa and farming for a living. The 1900 US Federal Census Report shows George Sr. and Mary living in Fairfield, Iowa with one daughter, Josie, living with them. George Sr's occupation is listed as NG (602) which I believe is the Old Age Benefit of the time often abbreviated as "OAB". George Lathrop Moore, died three years later on September 4, 1903 and was laid to rest at Wilcox Cemetery in Fairview, Iowa. Mary Colton (Olmsted) Moore died seven years later on December 16, 1910 in Anamosa, Iowa and was laid to rest in the same cemetery next to her husband with matching headstones showing "MOTHER" and "FATHER" at the top of each of their headstones.
