Mary Colton Olmsted married George Moore on April 26, 1850. The 1856 Iowa State Census reports the family having moved to Fairview, Iowa where George Moore worked as a laborer to support the family. The US Federal Census Report shows that by 1860 the family had moved to their own property near the town of Fairview, Iowa and George Moore farmed his own land to support the family. Indexed county land ownership maps support this land ownership information. George Moore registered for the Civil War draft in the 2nd Congressional District in 1863. I did not find evidence that he actually served. The 1870 and the 1880 US Federal Census Reports find the family still living near Fairview, Iowa and farming for a living. The 1900 US Federal Census Report shows George and Mary Moore living in Fairfield, Iowa with one daughter, Josie, living with them. They were renting, so were probably not on the farm. George Moore occupation is listed as NG (602) which is the Old Age Benefit of the time often abbreviated as "OAB". George Lathrop Moore died three years later on September 4, 1903 and was laid to rest at Wilcox Cemetery in Fairview, Iowa. Mary Colton (Olmsted) Moore died seven years later on December 16, 1910 in Anamosa, Iowa and was laid to rest in the same cemetery next to her husband with matching headstones showing "MOTHER" and "FATHER" at the top of each of their headstones.
