Anna Beckett Thomas grew up on his parent farm located just west of Fairview Township, Linn County, Iowa, on the south side of Fairview Road. Fairview Township is located about 4 miles south of Anamosa, Jones County, Iowa. In 1880 the Thomas' parents still lived with six of their children still at home on the farm in Fairview Township south of Anamosa, Iowa, but Thomas had moved out by then. In 1881 Thomas married Mary A. Moore of Thompsonville, Enfield, Connecticut. She was said to be his cousin, a fact that some of the family objected to. Mary A. Moore was born December of 1859 in the community of Thompsonville, Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut to a Thomas and Mary Ann Moore. Perhaps Mary’s father, Thomas, was the Thomas Moore, Jr., brother of her husband’s father, George Moore, making them first cousins. This would explain the objection of their families. At first the couple made their home in Iowa, where their first child was born, but by 1884 had moved to Mary’s hometown, Thompsonville, Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, and raised their children there. In 1900 Thomas worked as a Trolley Conductor at Enfield, and the couple had their three children and Mary’s mother, Mary Ann, living with them. By 1910 Thomas worked on the Police Force, one of their children still lived at home, and Mary’s mother, Mary Ann, still lived with them. In 1912 Thomas W. Moore was Chief of Police at Thompsonville, Connecticut. For several years, he was a member of the Enfield Society for the Detection of Thieves and Robbers. Thomas loved to work with wood and made two plant stands for his cousins Olin and Emma (Sharp) Olmsted. Thomas built a cabin behind his home that he used as a workshop. Thomas’ wife, Mary A. (Moore) Moore, died in October of 1913 and was buried at the Thompsonville Cemetery in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. In 1920 Thomas was an armory guard for the US Army in Enfield, and in 1930 he was retired and lived at his daughter and son-in-law’s home, Homer and Mary Cale, at Montague, Franklin County, Massachusetts. Thomas W. Moore, 73, died at Turners Falls, Massachusetts, obituary dated July 6, 1931. The children of Thomas William Moore and Mary A. (Moore) Moore were: -Thomas William “Willie” Moore, Jr. b. 1882, d. 1906. -Mary Maude Moore b. 1884, m. Homer Luther Cole. -Bertha Moore b. 1892, d. 1918. Alma’s maternal grandparents were Timothy Olmsted Moore b. 1855 and Harriett Emma (Kidwell) Moore. Mildred Laura (Boxwell) Borg (1900-2004) was born November 18, 1900 to John L. Boxwell and Anna Belle (Moore) Boxwell b. 1879. Mildred’s maternal grandparents were Timothy Olmsted Moore b 1855 and Harriett Emma (Kidwell) Moore. Stella was the daughter of Olin Simeon Olmsted b. 1857 and Emma (Sharp) Olmsted. Her paternal grandparents were Simeon Olmsted II b. 1774 and Abigail (Collins) Olmsted.
